I need to say it - whoah - Always one to share the enthusiasm of my own miniature eurekas, please accept this winded recommendation to take glee in the wizardly breakcore compositions of Colby Sparks — I’ve been seeing this kid around town all year, and just this past week I’m listening to his myspace page and it’s the most compelling and challenging mix of algorhythmic idm and non-metric breakcore I’ve heard since the magic years… a decade later, I’m stoked to know there are still more olympian rhythm scientists to be discovered rising in the ranks - Electronic percussion exploration has offered so much promise, and I’ve been watching all scanners for life-form readings… Colby’s music describes that contemporary event horizon…
When that exhilarating ten minutes of myspace is up, go back and listen to the Square Root of Evil to continue to pacify the chattering squirrels now delightfully burrowing in your brainstem. Should curiosity and pleasurable impulse persist, cue up Spark, Taal Mala and Vincent Parker to deliver more fastidious shizzle in the scholarly field of beat breaking. Bring your pulse down and let the pleasure centers grind on and on with Sub Osc, Self Evident and Max Ulis laying joyous vibrations across the tech-dub terrain. So much TALENT!!!
Vancouver and galaxies beyond, take note..
